CARES (Clinic for Assessment & Responsive Educational Support) serves the community and future special education teachers. Our goals include the following:

  • To help children, adolescents, adults and their families understand their child’s learning profile of strengths and needs to provide more targeted support and services, academic and behavioral interventions, at home, school or in the community.
  • To provide applied behavior analysis programming to support people with disabilities in social, communication, behavioral, vocational and functional domains.
  • To assist school- and community-based personnel in developing and implementing effective academic, behavioral and social-emotional strategies through remote and in-person behavioral coaching or professional training.
  • To prepare future special education teachers using assessment and intervention procedures to tutor and support students and individuals with diverse needs.

After our son was assessed we felt a sense of relief. We were empowered to take the assessment results to his school and advocate for him.

To say that interning with the CARES helped prepare me for teaching would be an understatement. The experience has helped me manage the real-world demands of being a special educator.

CARES made the assessment experience fun for our son. The staff was very receptive and helped us better understand his needs and strengths. We all learned a lot from the experience.

A donation of any amount is greatly appreciated and can support the work of the CARES to support people with disabilities and their families, and to provide critical learning experience to UIC students.
